Frequently Asked Questions
I’m new to this whole website thing, where do I even start?
At the heart of it, websites are supposed to solve problems for you, so the best place to start is with a clear picture of the problems they're trying to solve.
- Is your business leaking money because people can't find you online?
- Are you tired of dealing with clients from hell?
- Do your customers think you're a credible professional or a shady operator?
These are just some of the issues that your website can help you solve.
More than a vehicle for graphics and sliders, your website can be an important business asset—and all you need to do is clarify which problems you want solved and we'll help you develop a solution from there.

How much does a website cost?
The investment for a website is largely shaped by what you want your website to do, how well, and how fast.
Depending on your industry and objectives, professional websites can range from $5K for small sites to upwards of $20K and $50K USD (excluding maintenance costs, traffic generation campaigns, etc.).
When you work with us, these are some of the things you'd be investing into:
a. The research to make sure it's strategy and tactics are on point;
b. The content creation or preparation for use on and around the site;
c. The design for how your website should work and how it should look;
d. The development of the site itself, from the software and licenses involved;
e. The traffic plan for attracting the visitors we'll convert into customers;
f. The web care plan that keeps your website working as intended, continuously
g. and more!

What are DFY, DWY, and DIY?
DFY stands for Done-For-You. DFY is how most custom web projects are done. We go through a thorough research process to download your expertise and context, and you leverage our expertise and experience to build effective sites as fast as possible while you sit back and watch. This is the best for busy professionals.
DWY stands for Done-With-You. This is a hybrid between the Done-For-You and Do-It-Yourself models where we'll switch our relationship over to a coaching model so that you can implement the tasks yourself while under the guidance of a technical expert. This approach is the convenient middle ground in terms of speed, effort, and cost—making it both effective and efficient.
DIY stands for Do-It-Yourself. In some cases, our clients have an abundance of time (and patience!) or simply have someone internal who can do the work. DIY helps you leverage these advantages by working with us to develop a sound strategy for your situation while handling the implementation by yourself. If all you need is to be pointed in the right direction, this option is ideal for you.
How long does it take to design and build a website?
Durations vary per project and simple ones can take anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 months.

Will my website work on mobile devices?
Absolutely! The number of people browsing websites through their phones is increasing sharply, so it’s important that we design with them in mind.
By making our websites mobile responsive, we’ll be able to cater to desktop, tablet, and mobile phone users alike without sacrificing the quality of their browsing experience.
Do I need my own domain name and web hosting?
Yes! You will need a domain and a web hosting account to professionally publish your website online—but choosing the right providers can be tricky.
If you've never purchased these before, we can assist you in finding reputable and recommended providers, or we can take care of all of that for you when you subscribe to one of our monthly Website Care Plans.
Do you provide training?
Yes. We offer training to all clients on how to manage and maintain their website, so that they can create, edit, and design as many pages or blog posts as they want.
If you'd rather not handle the maintenance yourself, ask us about our monthly Website Care Plans.
What is a Website Care Plan?
In order to run smoothly, your website's core software, themes, and plugins need to be regularly updated, backed up remotely, and given proper troubleshooting if problems arise.
Kingmaker sites work best when paired with a Website Care Plans built in, meaning we're in charge of handling the heavy lifting.
We check for updates multiple times a week, have backups performed regularly, and will coordinate with the appropriate theme or plugin developer in case a rogue update proves incompatible with your current setup and throws your website out of balance.
What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
A Content Management System is a kind of software that lets you manage your website’s pages, blog articles, and images without doing any programming/coding.
It’s a handy tool for non-techy users that simplifies a lot of basic tasks like creating or updating content. If you have a browser and a reliable internet connection, you’re good to go!
What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimisation is when we gear our website towards ranking higher up on search engine results. The higher your ranking is, the more likely it is that you’ll get visitors (and potential customers).
Getting good SEO is a bit of a challenge because search engines like Google don’t publicly disclose all the factors that they base their rankings on. However, we know that they’re ultimately aiming at making great quality content easier to find, so it’s always a good idea to constantly focus on making highly relevant and useful material for your ideal visitors.
What other products and services do you offer?
Send us an email to inquire! We believe in focusing on doing what we do best, so if you’re requesting a service that isn’t part of our area of expertise, we’ll gladly point you in the right direction or to reliable teams who can assist you better.
